FUN LETTERING FOR FUN FOLKS

with Mary Kate McDevitt, Illustrator & Lettering Artist

Bring more fun and personality into your lettering! In this 3-hour, hands-on workshop, illustrator and lettering artist Mary Kate McDevitt will guide you through expressive letterforms, illustration integration, and composition techniques to make your type pop off the page.

Participants will learn:

  • Sketching techniques to explore new lettering styles

  • How to develop creative concepts and themes

  • Layout strategies for balanced, interesting compositions

  • How to incorporate illustrations into lettering projects

Materials needed:

  • Pencil

  • Pen

  • Paper

  • Sharpies

  • Markers (Posca Markers if possible)

  • Ruler

  • Scissors

Workshop time:

Saturday, November 8 • 10:00 AM – 1:00 PM EST. Video replays available for 90 days.

Mary Kate McDevitt

Kelli Anderson is an artist, paper engineer, and author known for turning everyday materials into tools of wonder.

Her books include This Book is a Camera (which literally becomes a working camera), This Book is a Planetarium (featuring a paper planetarium, speaker, and more), and the upcoming Alphabet in Motion, out this November.

Kelli’s experimental, analog-infused work has been featured by MoMA, Wired, The Atlantic, The New York Times, and The Today Show. She’s been honored by the Eames Institute, Adobe, and the Cooper Hewitt Design Awards.
