The Business of Creative with Amy & Jennifer Hood of Hoodzpah Design Co.
This workshop series focuses on how to start your own creative business, grow your client base, and promote yourself without selling out or starving. Day 1 begins with a getting to know you session to identify the personal needs of each student, followed by an in depth workbook to calculate your yearly budget and then set your pricing (hourly and flat rate for your mosts commonly requested jobs). The second half of the day we will focus on how to successfully communicate value and process to your clients when pitching so you can land the job. It'll get super transparent as we share real quotes, numbers, and pitch decks we've sent to clients and walk you through making a proposal deck that will blow the socks off your client. Day 2 is all about self promotion and working towards landing your dream clients: we'll do exercises that help you position yourself, talk about yourself, and market yourself both online and offline. We'll conclude the day with a session that covers how to smoothly take a project from first email, to quote, to contract, to payment, to proofs and design, to completion. We'll go over all the tools we use day to day at Hoodzpah, including project management, bookkeeping, contracts, collaboration, and more. We'll create a business plan and cap the day off with tips for monitoring your financial health. Each session will include plenty of time for Q&A and our goal is to make the content as tailored to you as possible.

Hand Lettering & Illustration with Mary Kate McDevitt
This Skill Camp workshop series consists of a two-day dive into Mary Kate's process of lettering. The goal of this session is to create a final lettering piece completely by hand using analog materials. Day 1 starts off covering the fundamentals of lettering and layout and ends with concept development, warmup exercises, creating thumbnails and beginning to sketch your lettering piece. Day 2 is focused on revising and finessing your sketch and adding color and texture, color final lettering piece. We will end our time together with a show and tell of student work, and any Q&A including real time examples from Mary Kate's body of work.

Logo Design with Aaron Draplin—SOLD OUT
This Skill Camp workshop series consists of a two-day deep dive into Aaron's creative process for logo design. As you build your own logo, Aaron will share tips, tricks and tales about how he does what he does (completely transparent). Day 1 starts off with concept development and sketching process, and ends with jumping into Illustrator to begin building the vector forms around your selected sketch. Day 2 wraps up the logo with his process of building the final vector form and presentation decks, learn how to present it to clients and quickly apply it to like-minded applications. We’ll conclude with show & tell of student projects, and any Q&A including real time examples and stories from Aaron's body of work.
IMPORTANT: Participants will need to be proficient in Adobe Illustrator and have their own computer with that program installed.
Motion Design with Erica Gorochow of PepRally
This Skill Camp workshop series consists of a two-day deep dive into Erica's process of motion design. The class will tell a story through creating a loop animation of a simple vector illustration. Day 1 starts off covering the principles of motion design and storyboard process and ends with student presentation, group critique, and prepping the illustration in Adobe After Effects. Day 2 is focused on animating the illustration with individual help from Erica. We will end our time together with a show and tell of student work, and any Q&A behind Erica's process and approach to motion design.
IMPORTANT: Participants will need to be proficient in Adobe: After Effects, Illustrator, Photoshop, and Media Encoder and have their own computer with these programs installed.
Vector Illustration with Dan Kuhlken & Nathan Goldman of DKNG
This Skill Camp workshop series consists of a two-day deep dive into DKNG’s creative process. The class will use poster design as the subject, but the process, tips and tricks, can be applied to all sorts of the projects in the worlds of design and illustration. Day 1 starts off with Dan and Nathan’s concept development and sketching process, and ends with jumping into Adobe Illustrator to begin building the vector structure of the poster. Day 2 wraps up the poster with their process of adding detail, texture, and halftone to the poster, and will conclude with a session addressing their final pass of finishing touches and cleanup, show & tell of student projects, and any Q&A including real time examples from DKNG’s body of work.
IMPORTANT: Participants will need to be proficient in Adobe Illustrator and Photoshop and have their own computer with these programs installed.
